長野県の丘陵地に、昭和39（1964）年建立の宝篋印塔が静かに佇んでいます。
この宝篋印塔の建立者の一人である祖南洋（ソナム・ギャツォ）師は、日本のチベット仏教・チベット学の世界では広く知られた人物です。しかし、師がゴル派の第74代座主であったことは、意外に知られていません。
このたび、ゴル派第79代座主に就任予定のカンサル・シャプドゥン・リンポチェが、この宝篋印塔を訪問されました。
奇しくも、宝篋印塔が建立された昭和39年は、ゴル寺のケンポである本会会長の生年でもあります。そこに何か不思議な因縁を感じずにはいられません。
日本に残された、かつての座主の足跡を、次代を担う座主が訪ねる――。
ゴル派の法脈が時代と国境を越えて結ばれる、たいへん意義深い機会となりました。

A Stupa Linking the Ngor Lineage
On a hillside in Nagano prefecture stands a stupa erected in 1964.
One of those responsible for its construction was the Venerable Sonam Gyatso, known in Japan as Hiroshi Sonami. He is widely recognised in Japanese circles of Tibetan Buddhism and Tibetan studies. It is not widely known, however, that he served as the 74th throne-holder of the Ngor tradition.
Ngor Khangsar Shabdrung Rinpoche, who is due to be installed as the 79th throne-holder of the Ngor tradition, recently visited the stupa.
By a remarkable coincidence, 1964—the year in which the stupa was erected—was also the year in which the chairman of our Buddhist centre, himself a khenpo of Ngor monastery, was born. It is difficult not to sense a mysterious karmic connection in this convergence.
For a future throne-holder to visit a stupa erected in Japan through the efforts of an earlier holder of the Ngor throne was a deeply meaningful occasion, linking the Ngor lineage across generations and borders.
